Montblanc Ink

Montblanc offers an exclusive selection of different Montblanc ink colours. In order to best protect your Montblanc fountain pen from any damage, please only use the Montblanc ink.

Cleaning of a Fountain Pen - General Information

Montblanc recommends to clean your writing instrument approximately every three months to preserve its pristine condition. Especially, if the ink has dried up due to lack of use, the feeder system is blocked, a different colour of ink is to be used, or the ink flow becomes irregular or stops. For cleaning, use only lukewarm water without any chemical products. It is impossible to prevent condensation after the cleaning process inside the cap. Condensation can dissolve remains of dried ink causing a colour change of the new ink. Therefore, always be careful to clean the nib and cap with a lint-free, damp cloth. To avoid leakage, keep the pen freshly filled with ink and carry the fountain pen with nib pointing upwards. Please also note filling instructions.

Fountain Pen with Converter

Clean the barrel with lukewarm water by repeating the filling process several times until water comes out noticeably cleaner. Never fill the cap up with water, use only a lint-free, damp cloth.

Montblanc Nib Cleaner

As an additional step to the process of refilling your Montblanc piston or converter fountain pen, Montblanc also offers a nib cleaner. This minimises any ink spillage which can dirty the front of your pen. Please refer to the usage instructions for the correct ink refilling  process (see product service guide and enclosed leaflet with original Montblanc ink).

Cleaning

In addition to maintaining your Montblanc fountain pen with the nib cleaner, Montblanc recommends that you carry out a thorough cleaning process once a year by contacting Montblanc Customer Service. Each time you finish refilling your Montblanc fountain pen, please use the nib cleaner as follows:

1) Open the nib cleaner by pressing on the outer edges.
2) Insert your pen right to the top with the nib facing upwards.
3) Absorb any excess ink by gently applying pressure to the top and bottom of the nib.
4) Press gently on the thread and turn the nib cleaner to clean the front part and the thread.
5) After use, the nib cleaner should be stored in the front compartment of the nib cleaner box.
6) The nib cleaner should be replaced once it has been used more than five times.

Important Note

To prevent discolouring, we recommend to only store your nib cleaner in the box provided. Do not swallow. Keep out of reach of children. Montblanc does not accept any liability in the event of damage due to inappropriate usage or failure to adhere to the usage instructions.

Natural Materials

Your writing instrument is manufactured of very distinctive material, such as resin, metal, wood, mother of pearl and precious stones. To enjoy your Montblanc writing instrument for a long time, please protect it from any breakage or damage and do not expose it to heat or humidity.

Storage of your Montblanc Writing instrument

It is recommended to keep your Montblanc writing instrument in a Montblanc pouch for protection. When not using your Montblanc writing instrument for a longer period of time, we kindly advise to remove all  ink out of the fountain pen. After a longer storage period, Montblanc recommends to clean your fountain pen to preserve its pristine condition.

2. WATCHES

Your watch is comparable to a jewel. Works of such exquisite craftsmanship require special care to
maintain their pristine appearance and precise performance. To prolong its longevity and precious
beauty, we highly recommend regular servicing, which allows you to keep your timepiece in perfect
shape and reliable functioning for a lifetime.

Just as a car requires regular maintenance, every watch also needs maintenance. Your watch requires maintenance every one to five years, depending on the mechanical features of the watch.

Water resistance

We highly recommend testing the water resistance of your watch at least every three years. Water in the case may result in condensation that can lead to deterioration of the movement. If you often engage in sports or are in frequent contact with water, the test is required once a year. Even though Montblanc watches are tested under various conditions, we strongly advise you not to pull out the crown or use the pushers while swimming or cleaning the watch, or when the watch is submerged under water. After swimming in the sea or in a swimming pool, clean your watch and stainless steel bracelet with lukewarm water and rinse it with fresh water. After, use a soft cloth to dry it or simply leave it to dry naturally. Never expose it to a hairdryer or radiator. If the watch has a leather strap, avoid having it come into contact with water. Avoid all contact with chemical products such as solvents, cosmetics or detergents. They may damage the case and the bracelet or cause the gaskets to deteriorate.

Magnetism

Magnetic fields are everywhere, now produced by TV sets or radios and by magnets themselves. Magnetic fields affect different parts of a watch’s movement and change its performance.

You can use a compass to check for magnetic fields. If the needle responds, then you are in a region of magnetic influence.

Please note that this only concerns mechanical movements. Quartz movements may lose a few seconds, but will return to normal once you leave the magnetic field.

Our Montblanc service centers are equipped with special machines to demagnetise your watch. Do not hesitate to bring your watch back to a Montblanc boutique or certified Montblanc retailer if you have any questions.

Care recommendations

If you have not worn your automatic or manually-wound watch for a while, wind it up fully by

turning the crown twenty times. In order to ensure the performance of your manually-wound mechanical watch, we advise you to wind the crown once a day, preferably at the same time. Take care not to force the crown once you feel resistance.

Do not change the hour or date between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. It is during this period that the date changes, and it may cause a damage of the movement.

Do not expose your watch to temperatures higher than 60° Celsius (140° Fahrenheit) or lower than –10° Celsius (14° Fahrenheit). As your body and clothing will warm up the watch, its actual temperature will be different to the ambient temperature of your environment.

In the case of a shock to the watch, consult a Montblanc boutique or certified Montblanc retailer. Even if no scratches or dents are visible, its movement may have become damaged. Do not wear other jewellery on the same arm as your watch in order to preserve the patina of its surface and the integrity of the material.

To preserve the pristine condition of your alligator, calf, satin or rubber strap, avoid contact with humidity, salty water, soap and cosmetic products. Do not treat your strap with wax, (leather or shoe) polish as chemicals may damage the leather, lining or stitching, thus causing the strap to lose its original shine. Avoid prolonged exposure to high temperatures and direct sunlight to prevent the colour from fading. Please note that strong perspiration may darken the leather.

Diamonds, set on a bezel or crown, must be handled with care to maintain the lifetime of their brilliance. Avoid contact with chemical products such as fragrances and detergents as these substances will tarnish precious stones. If your watch has been exposed to these, clean it with lukewarm water and a toothbrush. After, rinse it with fresh water and use a soft cloth to dry it or leave it to dry naturally. Never use a heating device. Lastly, please be sure to check the stones regularly to ensure they are still securely set.

Storage of your Montblanc Watch

It is recommended to keep your Montblanc watch in the box in which it was received. When travelling, we advise you to keep your Montblanc watch in a specially designed travel pouch.

When not using your Montblanc quartz watch for a very long period of time, please visit a Montblanc boutique. They will prepare the watch for the duration of storage.

3. LEATHER

Care Recommendations

Leather is a natural material that is sensitive to the effects of light, humidity and water. To keep your Montblanc leather product in perfect condition and prevent the colour from fading, Montblanc recommends protecting it from prolonged exposure to high temperatures and direct sunlight. In the event of contact with water, it should be dried promptly with a soft, smooth cloth. To maintain its natural softness, Montblanc recommends treating your leather product with a neutral leather care product.

Meisterstück Selection Alligator-Printed  Leather

Meisterstück Selection – a modern and classic collection incorporating the sleek design elements of the Meisterstück line with rich natural colours and precious hides. The inside of the product is lined with smooth soft leather. The collection combines both timeless elegance and modern design. Due to its delicate nature and handcrafted structure, Alligator-Printed Leather must be handled with care. The alligator-printed calfskin is coloured by hand to enhance the three dimensional effect and the transparency of the colour. Possible colour fluctuation and colour fading over time confirm the use of manual processes and the selection of natural materials. To minimise colour fading, please avoid prolonged exposure to light.

Montblanc Extreme Leather

The Montblanc Extreme Leather collection combines a centuries-old tradition of fine craftsmanship with a constant quest for innovation. In 1926, Montblanc opened its first leather workshop in Germany. Montblanc Extreme connects leather manufacturing processes from that time with new techniques developed at the Montblanc Pelleteria in Florence, Italy.

The finishing techniques used in this collection are based on cutting-edge technology to provide every piece with additional protection against the elements.

Due to its embossed structure, Montblanc Extreme Leather tends to be more sensitive to dust. Montblanc Extreme Leather can be cleaned with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. If more thorough cleaning is required, moisten the cloth with clean water. Please avoid using standard cleaning agents, as this may cause halos and undesired changes in the touch and feel of the surface.

Montblanc Meisterstück Selection Sfumato

The Montblanc Meisterstück Selection Sfumato makes use of natural full-grain leather that feels soft and elegant to the touch. The tanning and finishing processes used to create Selection Sfumato Leather intensify the colour as well as the natural characteristics of the calfskin itself, like wrinkles, veins and growth marks. The special handmade painting process bestows every individual product with a unique shadow effect.

As leather is a natural material, it tends to be sensitive to scratches and humidity. To care for and extend the life of your product, please refer to the general care recommendations given above.

Magnets

Montblanc Products with magnets should not be used by people fitted with pacemakers, defibrillators, implanted insulin pumps, transdermal drug delivery patches or other electro-medical devices, during pregnancy or while nursing an infant. Use of these products should also be avoided in the vicinity of high-voltage machinery or cables. The magnetic field generated by the products may affect objects sensitive to magnets, such as credit cards or other magnetic cards, sensitive data storage devices or displays, personal digital assistants, video/ audio tapes and similar items.

The magnetic field generated by these products may also affect the proper functioning of mechanical and quartz watches, so watches should not be stored in or near the products. These products are not toys and should be kept out of the reach of children.

Storage of your Montblanc Leather Product

When your Montblanc leather product is not in use, Montblanc recommends keeping it in a dust bag, if available, stored in a dry and dark space. Please note that adverse storage conditions, such as high temperatures, strong light or high humidity, may cause undesired changes in the material.

4. JEWELLERY

Care Recommendations

Montblanc recommends removing jewellery, especially rings, during household chores and gardening. Please avoid contact with salty water, soap, cosmetic products, fragrances, hairsprays and corrosive or solvent-based cleaning agents. Substances such as chlorine may permanently damage or discolour your Montblanc jewellery, especially at high temperatures. Please avoid wearing your Montblanc jewellery to the beach, swimming pool, hot tub or playing sports in order to protect it from damage.

Please be sure to have the stones’ settings checked regularly by one of our goldsmiths to ensure they are still securely set.

Precious metals and stones vary in their characteristics and handling needs. The following paragraphs outline the specific care recommendations for your individual product.

Important note
Do not use an ultrasonic bath for jewellery with precious resin or natural components such as pearls, mother-of- pearl, wood, rubber or leather.

Materials used

Sterling Silver
Tarnishing of sterling silver jewellery is a natural effect and cannot be fully avoided. Regular cleaning of silver jewellery with a silver polishing cloth is recommended.

Gold/Platinum
To preserve the beauty of your gold or platinum jewellery, dust and dirt should be removed by wiping it off with a damp cloth. Montblanc recommends having your piece of jewellery serviced on a regular basis. Montblanc provides a professional cleaning service in an ultrasonic bath. For more thorough cleaning, Montblanc offers a polishing service performed by one of our goldsmiths to recover the original brilliance and shine of your product. Especially for gold jewellery, having it polished once a year is recommended.

Pearls/Mother-of-Pearl
Montblanc recommends cleaning your piece of jewellery adorned with pearls or mother-of-pearl with a damp cloth, carefully wiping the pearls or mother- of-pearl. Afterwards, dry your jewellery using a soft cloth.

Stainless Steel
The stainless steel used in Montblanc jewellery is a very hard and resistant material which does not stain, tarnish, discolour or scratch easily. However, shiny and polished stainless steel is more sensitive and should not be exposed to sharp surfaces. Over time, stainless steel may show signs of wear and tear.

Wood
Please clean the jewellery as recommended. For the wooden parts, moisten the wood with a drop of mineral or almond oil on a cotton ball. Let the wood absorb the oil and then wipe off the remains. Please do not apply oil to other parts.

Rubber
If your piece of jewellery has rubber inlays, please do not use any strong chemical cleaning agents. Please avoid scratches or cuts on the rubber, as this may cause the material to break.

Magnets
Montblanc jewellery products with magnets should not be used by individuals fitted with pacemakers, defibrillators, implanted insulin pumps, transdermal drug delivery patches or other electro- medical devices, during pregnancy or while nursing an infant. Use of these products should also be avoided in the vicinity of high-voltage machinery or cables. The magnetic field emitted by these products may affect objects sensitive to magnets, such as credit cards or other magnetic cards, sensitive data storage devices or displays, personal digital assistants, video/audio tapes and similar items. The magnetic field emitted by these products may also affect the proper functioning of mechanical and quartz watches, so watches should not be stored in or near the products. These products are not toys and should be kept out of the reach of children. These products are not sold as medical devices and do not replace any professionally prescribed medical treatments.

Precious Resin/Lacquer
Precious resin, lacquer and any other precious material may develop fine cracks if knocked or dropped. Please do not use any strong chemical cleaning agents.

Diamonds
It is recommended that diamonds are handled with care to maintain the lifetime of their brilliance. Avoid contact with chemical products such as fragrances and detergents, as these substances may tarnish precious stones.

Gemstones/Precious Stones
Gemstones are very sensitive and may change colour if not treated properly. Gemstones should not be exposed to sunlight for a prolonged time as this may cause undesired changes in the material.

Leather
Leather is a natural material that is sensitive to the effects of light, humidity and water. To keep your Montblanc jewellery product with leather parts in perfect condition and prevent the colour from fading, Montblanc recommends protecting it from prolonged exposure to high temperatures or direct sunlight. In the event of contact with water, it should be dried promptly with a soft, smooth cloth. To maintain its natural softness, Montblanc recommends treating the leather parts with a neutral leather-care product.

Storage of your Montblanc Jewellery Piece

When your Montblanc jewellery is not worn, Montblanc recommends keeping it in the packaging provided (e.g. pouch or box), stored in a dry and dark space. Please note that high temperatures, strong light or high humidity may cause undesired changes in the material. In regions with high humidity, it is recommended that desiccating crystals (e.g. silica gel) are placed with the jewellery pieces.

All Montblanc necklaces should lie flat to avoid any bending. In general, pieces of jewellery should not be placed on top of one another in a box, pouch or drawer.
